Kentucky, with both sites ending operations by January 2026.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The US-based sustainable packaging solutions provider stated that the Compton and Louisville closures will affect 125 and 93 facilities.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>International Paper plans to limit workforce disruption through attrition, retirements and filling vacancies at other sites.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Affected employees will receive outplacement assistance, mental-health support and severance benefits.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The closures are part of its plan to streamline operations and focus investment on facilities that better support its quality and service goals.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>International Paper North American packaging solutions executive vice-president and president Tom\u202fHamic stated: \u201cMaking the decision to close a facility is incredibly difficult, especially knowing the impact it has on our team members and their families.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are sincerely grateful for the contributions of our departing team members, and we are fully committed to supporting them through this transition.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In early November 2025, International Paper <a href=\"https:\/\/www.packaging-gateway.com\/news\/international-paper-shutters-five-german-sites\/?utm_source=&amp;utm_medium=16-124698&amp;utm_campaign=&amp;cf-view\" target=\"_blank\">announced the closure<\/a> of five packaging sites in Germany, which will impact 500 jobs.\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The move is part of the company\u2019s integration of DS Smith, a UK rival it\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/www.packaging-gateway.com\/news\/international-paper-ds-smith-3\/?utm_source=&amp;utm_medium=16-114447&amp;utm_campaign=\" target=\"_blank\">acquired<\/a>\u202fin January 2025.\u202f\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The facilities lined up for closure are one conventional box plant, one display and offset site, and three sheet plants, along with a partial closure of another display site.\u202f\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Closure plans will be implemented by the end of 2026, subject to the outcome of consultations.\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In May 2025,\u202fReuters\u202freported that International Paper will\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/www.packaging-gateway.com\/news\/international-paper-uk-packaging-sites\/?utm_source=&amp;utm_medium=16-118241&amp;utm_campaign=\" target=\"_blank\">shut down five<\/a>\u202fof its UK packaging sites, leading to a loss of 300 jobs.\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Two months later, International Paper\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/www.packaging-gateway.com\/news\/international-paper-finalises-european-plant-divestiture\/?utm_source=&amp;utm_medium=16-119811&amp;utm_campaign=%22%20\\t%20%22_blank\"
