Suitable for a wide range of foods and dishes, the packaging features the world\u2019s first plastic-free coating for takeaway containers made from plant protein. The multiple award-winning innovation is now available to all Lieferando restaurant partners. Its launch is made possible through an international collaboration with packaging manufacturer Huhtamaki.<\/p>\n<p>Made from sustainably sourced corrugated cardboard, finished with a plastic-free Morro coating, and fully biodegradable with Huhtamaki\u2019s new folding boxes, Lieferando Austria is now offering its 4,800 restaurant partners a more environmentally friendly alternative to conventional takeaway packaging. But the new packaging range stands out not only for its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.packagingstrategies.com\/topics\/2678-sustainable-packaging\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">sustainability<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThanks to their durability and thermal insulation, these packages are suitable for a wide range of foods and dishes\u2014including greasy meals that are traditionally difficult to transport,\u201d says Lieferando Managing Director Natascha Mauthner.<\/p>\n<p>The packaging innovation has already been successfully tested in the UK and Germany. Feedback from those markets confirms that demand for eco-friendly packaging remains strong.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re all the more pleased that this unique solution can now be ordered via our partner webshop in Austria and used by our local restaurant partners,\u201d explains Mauthner.<\/p>\n<h4>A world-first, award-winning coating<\/h4>\n<p>At the heart of the packaging lies the Morro coating\u2014an innovation by UK-based company Xampla, a leading expert in material innovation and development. Made from plants and produced without chemical modification, the Morro coating is recyclable and biodegradable in all environments, making it a versatile option for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.packagingstrategies.com\/topics\/2663-foodservice-packaging\" id=\"\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">food delivery<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are excited to work with Lieferando and Huhtamaki\u2014two forward-thinking partners who share our commitment to reducing plastic pollution,\u201d says Xampla CEO Alexandra French. \u201cOur Morro coating is designed to integrate seamlessly into existing packaging processes and offers a high-performance alternative to plastic. It also won the \u201cE-Commerce\u201d category at this year\u2019s Sustainability Awards at the Sustainable Packaging Summit.<\/p>\n<h4>Plastic reduction as a strategic priority<\/h4>\n<p>The introduction of sustainable alternatives to single-use plastics aligns with the global ambition of Lieferando\u2019s parent company, <a href=\"https:\/\/justeattakeaway.com\/\" id=\"\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Just Eat Takeaway.com<\/a>, to reduce plastic consumption within its sphere of influence.
