The Circular Plastics Taskforce (CPT), \u00c9co Entreprises Qu\u00e9bec and Recycle BC [British Columbia] have launched BiblioFlex, a national initiative focused on flexible plastic packaging in Canada.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

The project aims to build a more detailed understanding of these plastics and how they move through the Canadian market.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Testing under the programme is set to start by the end of 2025, with early findings due in summer 2026.\u00a0<\/p>\n

BiblioFlex will draw on laboratory analysis and characterisation by market segment to examine the composition of flexible plastic packaging.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

The work will combine technical testing with information from industry to inform changes in packaging design and to help refine recycling processes.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The initiative will be delivered through two regional hubs, one in Quebec and the other in British Columbia, with specialists from across the country expected to participate.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

CPT\u2019s<\/s> board of directors co-chair Marie-Anne Champoux-Guimond stated: \u201cWe are extremely proud of this initiative, which reflects our mission to foster collaboration and innovation in the management of post-consumer plastics in Canada.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThis project marks an important milestone in our national expansion strategy and will strengthen our collective understanding of a family of packaging that represents roughly half of all plastic packaging generated in the country.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

The CPT focuses on advancing a circular economy for post-consumer plastics in Quebec and across Canada, with an emphasis on matching the needs of end markets for recycled resins with the wider recycling chain.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

The taskforce is driven by Cascades, the Chemistry Industry Association of Canada, Circular Materials, Danone Canada, \u00c9co Entreprises Qu\u00e9bec, Keurig Dr Pepper Canada, ProAmpac and Recycle BC.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u00c9co Entreprises Qu\u00e9bec is a private, non-profit organisation that oversees the kerbside recycling system in Quebec and represents businesses that place containers, packaging and printed paper on the provincial market.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Recycle BC is a not-for-profit organisation that manages residential packaging and paper recycling across British Columbia under its extended producer responsibility programme.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u00c9co Entreprises Qu\u00e9bec innovation and infrastructure projects vice-president Normand Gadoury stated: \u201cWith the expansion of expanded producer responsibility (EPR) across Canada, collection programs have started accepting a wider range of flexible plastic packaging. Better understanding the specific composition of that stream is therefore more relevant than ever.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
