SGD Pharma has secured ISO 14021 certification for its post-consumer recycled (PCR) glass packaging in China, becoming the first glass manufacturer in the country to attain this standard.<\/p>\n

The certification, issued by Bureau Veritas, recognises the company\u2019s capabilities in producing PCR glass packaging and endorses its stated environmental claims, according to SGD Pharma.<\/p>\n

ISO 14021 relates to self-declared environmental claims, requiring that such statements are supported by verifiable data.<\/p>\n

PCR glass production forms a core element of SGD Pharma\u2019s decarbonisation pathway, which aims for a 42% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions and a 25% decrease in Scope 3 emissions by 2030, using 2022 as the reference year.<\/p>\n

The company links the increased use of recycled glass to these objectives.<\/p>\n

Citing data from the European Container Glass Federation (FEVE), SGD Pharma noted that a 10% increase in recycled cullet usage can cut energy consumption by 3% and lower CO\u2082 emissions by 5%.<\/p>\n

The newly obtained certification confirms that a recent production run incorporated between 18% and 35% PCR content, calculated in accordance with FEVE\u2019s methodology.<\/p>\n

The company said the ISO 14021 audit verifies that its internal monitoring systems and its implementation of FEVE guidance for measuring and validating PCR levels in production meet the standard\u2019s requirements.<\/p>\n

SGD Pharma also highlighted that securing sufficient volumes of compliant post-consumer glass cullet remains a key challenge for PCR glass manufacture in China.<\/p>\n

In response, the glass packaging provider said it has implemented a stringent, traceable sourcing and testing framework designed to guarantee consistency and full traceability across all PCR glass output.<\/p>\n

Against a backdrop of tightening regulations and mounting consumer expectations around sustainability, the company said beauty brands are increasingly looking for packaging options that support circularity and are backed by credible verification.<\/p>\n

It added that certified PCR glass packaging offers its customers a transparent mechanism to lower environmental impact while contributing to a more circular business model.<\/p>\n
