Duni Group, a provider of food packaging and dining solutions, has partnered with Relevo to introduce a new circular initiative in Munich, Germany.<\/p>\n

With a duration of five years, the ReMuc \u2013 \u201cOis im Kreis\u201d project is centred on a digital system for managing reusable food containers and will be trialled at Viktualienmarkt, a food market in the city.<\/p>\n

Majority-owned by Duni Group, Relevo is responsible for the digital infrastructure behind the scheme.<\/p>\n

The initiative is intended to make reusable food packaging more accessible through technology and automated processes, presenting a practical example of how such systems might operate in busy urban settings.<\/p>\n

This move comes ahead of the European Union\u2019s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), which will take effect from August 2026.<\/p>\n

Five automated stations will be installed across Viktualienmarkt over the duration of ReMuc.<\/p>\n

Customers purchasing food or beverages in reusable containers can return them at these stations to reclaim their deposits.<\/p>\n

Other partners involved include Recup for supplying containers and Circle Cube for the return machinery while Cup Company will oversee logistics and cleaning.<\/p>\n

The project\u2019s objectives include decreasing packaging waste and reducing burdens on local vendors.<\/p>\n

All processes relating to deposits, returns, and tracking are handled via one platform managed by Relevo by Duni.<\/p>\n

Duni Group has stated that the upcoming regulatory changes are likely to increase the need for solutions that integrate convenience with logistical traceability.<\/p>\n

The company maintains that there will continue to be a place for both single-use and reusable options, with an emphasis on offering consumers flexibility in their choices.<\/p>\n

Duni Group food packaging solutions chief officer Nicklas\u202fLauwell said: \u201cSingle-use solutions have been the default for good reasons: flexibility, convenience, and hygiene.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey will continue to matter. What\u202fReMuc\u202fdemonstrates is equally important: reuse can work at scale, in real life. Our hope is that this encourages more cities to pilot and adopt similar systems.\u201d<\/p>\n

Last August, Duni Group introduced its Relevo digital reuse system for takeaway containers in Sweden.<\/p>\n

Launched in partnership with distributor Carepa, this system allows consumers to borrow and return reusable containers through an app, in line with evolving sustainability requirements.<\/p>\n
