Chemco Group, a manufacturer of plastic packaging based in India, has\u00a0commissioned\u00a0its new food-grade recycled PET (rPET) recycling plant in\u00a0the state of\u00a0Gujarat.<\/p>\n

The facility\u00a0entails\u00a0an investment of around Rs1.25bn ($13.7m).<\/p>\n

The plant is set up to process more than a billion used PET bottles each year, converting them into\u00a0rPET\u00a0that can be directly used in food and beverage packaging.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0site is designed to\u00a0maintain\u00a0international standards for quality and safety, with the recycled material being approved by both the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), as well as meeting food-contact plastics requirements from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India\u00a0(FSSAI).<\/p>\n

Operations at Sanand also\u00a0comply with\u00a0guidelines from the Bureau of Indian Standards concerning recycled materials.<\/p>\n

By developing in-house recycling capabilities, Chemco empowers its brand partners to fulfil recycled-content mandates, extended producer responsibility (EPR) requirements and sustainability goals\u00a0while\u00a0maintaining\u00a0product performance and food safety standards.<\/p>\n

The plant employs a closed-loop system, giving Chemco oversight throughout the recycling process and reducing dependence on external suppliers and lengthy transportation routes.<\/p>\n

This approach aims to provide steady product quality and supply volumes suited to large businesses in the beverage, FMCG, and food sectors.<\/p>\n

Chemco Group\u00a0managing director\u00a0Vaibhav Saraogi\u00a0said:\u00a0\u201cThis facility represents a strategic shift in how Chemco approaches sustainability.<\/p>\n

In 2024, Chemco\u00a0announced\u00a0an\u00a0investment<\/a>\u00a0to\u00a0expand\u00a0its rigid packaging production capacity in Bahrain.<\/p>\n

This initiative\u00a0marked\u00a0Chemco\u2019s third expansion in the country since it first set up a factory at the Bahrain International Investment Park (BIIP) in 2013.\u00a0<\/p>\n
