The French government has formally postponed its planned ban on single-use plastic cups, extending the original deadline from 1 January 2026 to 1 January 2030.<\/p>\n

The official decree, published on 31 December 2025, states that a comprehensive review completed in 2025 found no production-ready substitutes that fully eliminate plastic from single-use cups while meeting sanitary, performance and manufacturing standards.<\/p>\n

As a result, the government adjusted its reduction trajectory for plastic content in these products, extending the timeframe for full prohibition. A follow-up assessment is scheduled for 2028 to monitor industry progress toward viable alternatives.<\/p>\n

Under the new schedule, single-use cups still containing plastic will remain on the market until the end of 2029, with a 12-month stock phase-out period after enforcement begins in 2030.<\/p>\n
