Not that this is anything new\u2014*gestures around at all of American history*\u2014but it\u2019s particularly hard right now to express any sort of American patriotism, even indirectly, without feeling like I\u2019m aligning with the Bad Guys. You know, the ones\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2026\/01\/23\/us\/liam-conejo-ramos-ice-wwk\">abducting five-year-olds from the streets<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/us\/live-news\/ice-minneapolis-shooting-01-24-26\">murdering civilians<\/a>, and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2026\/jan\/26\/trump-administration-alex-pretti-shooting-statements\">then lying about it<\/a>. Call me crazy, but I just can\u2019t get behind that.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As a brand, America has really tanked. Most of the time, it can feel like the American flag itself has been co-opted by far-right extremists and signifies support for the disastrous direction our country is going in.
