Indorama Ventures and AMB Spa have extended collaboration to introduce a new PET (polyethylene terephthalate) multilayer tray aimed at enhancing recyclability in food packaging.<\/p>\n

The move centres on a multilayer structure that places recycled PET flakes in the tray\u2019s core, while using virgin, food-grade PET on the exterior surfaces.<\/p>\n

This approach is designed to retain necessary standards relating to food safety, clarity, and sealing, while increasing the proportion of recycled material, noted Indorama.<\/p>\n

AMB Spa chief procurement officer Paolo Cescutti said: \u201cThis solution demonstrates that multilayer trays can meet circularity goals in practice, not just on paper.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt proves that innovation and collaboration can unlock new recycling pathways, even for the most complex packaging waste streams.\u201d<\/p>\n

The tray is also designed so it can be processed for recycling after use, supporting the reuse of PET for similar applications.<\/p>\n

This development aligns with upcoming European regulations under the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), which require an average of 30% recycled content in plastic packaging by 2030.<\/p>\n

Production has begun at Indorama Ventures\u2019 Verdun Recycling site in France.<\/p>\n

Deliveries to UK customers are underway, with broader European distribution planned.<\/p>\n

This project builds on earlier cooperation between the two companies in 2023.<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n

Since then, the process has moved from initial development to full-scale production, aiming to support circularity in high-performance food packaging through design that facilitates recycling.<\/p>\n

Indorama Ventures Europe and T\u00fcrkiye CPET business director Andy Motta commented: \u201cA scalable innovation like this enables the tray industry to maintain high performance while moving decisively toward Europe\u2019s circular-economy ambitions.<\/p>\n
