Global packaging specialist Tosca has partnered with dog food company Ollie to use reusable packaging for fresh pet food distribution.<\/p>\n

Tosca said that the move is intended to improve product protection during transit, simplify operations and reduce packaging waste.<\/p>\n

The requirements of frozen, human-grade products, which need packaging that maintains integrity in transport and supports airflow during freezing.<\/p>\n

The packaging company added that conventional corrugated packaging was not suited to those requirements.<\/p>\n

Ollie\u00a0supply chain\u00a0and\u00a0manufacturing director\u00a0Ed Brockhoff commented: \u201cStacks would break down and disintegrate in transit.\u00a0That affected efficiency and product integrity.<\/p>\n

\u200b\u201dThe ventilation with reusable plastic containers means the product gets frozen as quickly as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ollie\u2019s\u00a0previous corrugated packaging created operational difficulties and left scope for improvement.<\/p>\n

The company has now shifted to Tosca\u2019s reusable plastic containers, which it said have led to better load stability and improved freezing results.<\/p>\n

The containers are collected, cleaned,\u00a0checked\u00a0and then put back into use. This reduces reliance on single-use corrugated packaging.<\/p>\n

Tosca customer success manager Michael Davis said: \u200b\u201dHigh-growth food brands don\u2019t just need packaging; they need infrastructure that performs consistently at scale.<\/p>\n

Last year, Il Visone, a major supplier of fresh grapes within the Italian Agricooper group, partnered with Tosca<\/a> for its reusable plastic crate solutions<\/p>\n

The crates were designed with pierced holes to promote airflow, ensuring that the contained grapes remain fresh from August to November.<\/p>\n
