Amcor has moved forward in a joint project with Finland\u2019s Mets\u00e4 Group and food packaging equipment maker G Mondini, with the companies preparing to present an integrated fibre-based tray system for protein products and chilled ready meals.<\/p>\n

The packaging format combines a lightweight barrier liner with a top web and is due to be demonstrated at the interpack trade fair, due to be held in D\u00fcsseldorf, Germany, from 7 to 13 May.<\/p>\n

The system will run on G Mondini\u2019s Trave Streamline machine.<\/p>\n

Amcor said its development team worked with G Mondini on machine compatibility for meat and food manufacturers.<\/p>\n

The tray and film solution is based on Amcor\u2019s AmFiber paper-based packaging and is intended for perishable foods requiring shelf-life protection.<\/p>\n

The formats reflect increased consumer acceptance of more sustainable materials and provide brands with another packaging option.<\/p>\n

The tray is made with Muoto, a moulded fibre packaging material developed by Mets\u00e4 Spring, Mets\u00e4 Group\u2019s innovation company.<\/p>\n

The companies said the solution offers a recyclable packaging option made from renewable wood sourced from northern forests.<\/p>\n

Amcor\u2019s barrier liners and top web films can be used with the tray for different applications.<\/p>\n

The system is designed for MAP and Skin technologies and can reduce plastic content while helping to preserve products for longer.<\/p>\n

The G Mondini Trave Streamline system allows trays to move through the sealing stage with less friction, which can improve production efficiency.<\/p>\n

The company\u2019s digital printing technology makes it possible to customise fibre trays directly while keeping a natural look.<\/p>\n

Amcor global fibre vice president Ilya Syshchikov said:\u202f\u201cHigh-performing packaging requires a fully integrated system, where every element, from tray and barrier liner to top web and machinery, works seamlessly together. <\/p>\n

Last month,\u00a0Mets\u00e4\u00a0Board\u00a0introduced\u00a0Mets\u00e4Board<\/a>\u00a0Pro FBB Go, a folding boxboard product for food and pharmaceutical packaging uses in Europe.\u00a0<\/p>\n
