Mars’ packaging updates represents a larger industry trend to make packaging more circular and sustainable. As part of its efforts, Mars has invested hundreds of millions of dollars when it comes to reducing its packaging and making it compatible with current and future regulations.

Mars highlighted three specific areas in which the company improved its packaging sustainability in 2025:

Reducing Plastic Use: Examples in 2025 include transitioning Mixed Minis packaging in India from a multi-material pouch to a tin canister, replacing SNICKERS® gift box polystyrene trays with recyclable paperboard and conducting in-market trials on KIND paper flow wraps in the US.

Redesigning Packaging: 67.6% of Mars’ consumer-facing packaging is designed to be reusable, recyclable or compostable. For example, the company’s recyclable WHISKAS® wet pet food pouches were developed with suppliers and recycling partners to work within existing recycling systems in the UK and Germany while maintaining product quality and safety.

Increasing Recycled Content: In 2025, Mars has increased its recycled content usage to 18,721 tons of recycled content incorporated, which equates to 9.2% of its global plastic portfolio. Scaling recycled materials helps reduce reliance on virgin plastic and strengthens demand for recycled content. Mars now offers 100% rPET in products such as the club jars (excluding caps) in the US for M&M’S®, Skittles®, STARBURST®; Tata and PimPom jars in China and part of the MasterFoods® squeezy sauce bottle portfolio in Australia.

“Sustainability is central to how we grow and thrive. Not only because it’s the right thing to do for people and the planet, but because it’s the only way to build resilience and economic certainty for our business and the thousands of people across our full value chain,” said Poul Weihrauch, CEO & Office of the President, Mars, Incorporated. “For more than a century, Mars has operated by taking the long view. That approach has never felt more consequential than it does today.”

To read the full report, visit here.

Source link

In its latest sustainability report, Mars has announced that approximately 67% of its packaging is designated as reusable, recyclable or compostable.
