Credit: GAIA Biomaterials\/Cision. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p class=\"drop-cap\">Gaia Biomaterials has entered into an agreement with flexible packaging company Smartpack to launch Gaia\u2019s compostable plastic alternative material in Chile.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>            <!-- sponsored-whitepaper sponsored hidden sponsored-with-form --><\/p>\n<p>As part of this agreement, Gaia Biomaterials will introduce Biodolomer, a compostable material, in the country.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This move comes as the country seeks sustainable solutions following a new law banning single-use plastics in various sectors.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The packaging industry has been pursuing alternative materials that offer all the characteristics of plastic.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Smartpack commercial director Christian Spoerer said: \u201cThe market here needs new sustainable alternatives to fossil plastic, and we need it now. Biodolomer has proven to be a perfect match for us.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Biodolomer is based on limestone and can be implemented in most applications where plastic is used.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The material\u00a0offers a viable option that is fully compostable and leaves no microplastics upon decomposition.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Spoerer added: \u201cSmartpack specialises in providing complete packaging solutions. We handle everything from production line design to machine installation and material supply.
