If you attended a seven-p.m. screening of\u00a0The Substance<\/em>\u00a0last month in Providence and heard hysterical laughing, a borderline uncomfortable cackle from the center-left portion of the movie theater during the last 20 minutes of the film, then I want to apologize. I was having a good time.<\/p>\n I am probably not the person you want to see a horror movie with, and I know for a fact that, at some point, I will embarrass my wife during a movie by laughing uncontrollably\u2014mostly from silliness, sometimes from a state of anxiousness, but\u00a0never<\/em>\u00a0during the jump the scare or the reveal. That\u2019s sacrosanct. You don\u2019t fuck with that. But it\u00a0will<\/em>happen at some point.<\/p>\n It\u2019s not exactly genre-specific, either. It doesn\u2019t have to be a B-movie; it can be something that is genuinely regarded among the\u00a0Joe Bob Briggs set<\/a>\u00a0as scary. But body horror usually gets the chuckle factory engine revved up. Incidentally,\u00a0Barbarian<\/em>\u00a0is a hoot. So is\u00a0Titane\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0Cabin Fever.<\/em>\u00a0There\u2019s plenty more, honestly.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
