Images repeat until every ounce of originality melds into the same mush. When aesthetic trends or photo styles dominate the visual landscape, everyone hops on board and mimics the style.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Elizabeth Goodspeed wrote a piece for<em> <\/em>Eye on Design<em> <\/em>titled <a href=\"https:\/\/eyeondesign.aiga.org\/all-advertising-looks-the-same-these-days-blame-the-moodboard\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>All Advertising Looks the Same These Days. Blame the Moodboard<\/em><\/a><em>. \u201c<\/em>This kind of visual homogeneity is a common occurrence in the art direction world, where ubiquitous styles operate less like trends and more like memes; remixed and diluted until they become a single visual mass,\u201d she wrote. \u201d In today\u2019s extremely-online world, the vast availability of reference imagery has, perhaps counterintuitively, led to narrower thinking and shallower visual ideation. It\u2019s a product of what I like to call the \u2018moodboard effect.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It seems that moodboarding hasn\u2019t let up since 2022; if anything, it\u2019s been perpetuated, especially as every brand\u2019s Instagram feed has become a visual mood board instead of a pedestal or platform to push products. You know, with the \u201cmake Instagram casual again\u201d rhetoric.
