Credit: wisely via Shutterstock.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p class=\"drop-cap\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.globaldata.com\/store\/report\/?cdmsid=3398869&amp;scalar=true&amp;utm_source=Company News&amp;utm_medium=16-112368&amp;utm_campaign=company-profile-hyperlink-nonlgp\" target=\"_blank\">Avantium<\/a>, a chemical technology company, has announced a collaboration with Japanese beverage company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.globaldata.com\/store\/report\/?cdmsid=1394090&amp;scalar=true&amp;utm_source=Company News&amp;utm_medium=16-112368&amp;utm_campaign=company-profile-hyperlink-nonlgp\" target=\"_blank\">Kirin Holdings<\/a> to explore the application of the former\u2019s polyethylene furanoate (PEF) material, branded as Releaf, in Kirin\u2019s beverage portfolio.<\/p>\n<p>            <!-- sponsored-whitepaper sponsored hidden sponsored-with-form --><\/p>\n<p>Kirin has been working with Avantium since 2020 to assess the potential of PEF within its product range due to its claimed superior barrier properties and mechanical strength, as well as lower processing temperatures compared to traditional materials.<\/p>\n<p>The companies have worked on polyethylene terephthalate (PET) multilayer applications, blending, and PEF monolayer evaluation over the last three years.<\/p>\n<p>These efforts aimed to verify the recyclability, barrier properties, and formability of PEF, and yielded promising results.<\/p>\n<p>Consequently, Kirin has decided to intensify its collaboration with Avantium, expanding the evaluation of PEF to various types of containers for its products.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the research and development efforts, Kirin is supporting Avantium in integrating PEF recycling within the existing PET stream in Japan.<\/p>\n<p>This support is part of the application process to the Japanese Council for PET Bottle Recycling (CPBR).<\/p>\n<p>Avantium has already achieved recognition for PEF in the PET recycling streams in Europe and the US by the European PET Bottle Platform and the Association of Plastic Recyclers, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Kirin\u2019s Research &amp; Development Division\u2019s Institute for Package Innovation unit general manager Masaki Nakaya said: \u201cAvantium\u2019s application to CPBR will add a new environmentally favourable package alternative to Japan\u2019s beverage industry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKirin has been a leading company in Japan in sustainable practices, for example by developing sustainable containers and packaging that employ recycled materials and biobased feedstocks.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Last year, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.packaging-gateway.com\/news\/avantium-albert-heijn-pef\/\" target=\"_blank\">Avantium partnered with Dutch supermarket chain Albert Heijn<\/a> to facilitate its shift toward more sustainable packaging for own-branded products.<\/p>\n<p>            <!-- sponsored-whitepaper sponsored hidden sponsored-with-form --><\/p>\n<p>            <!-- Newsletter banner start --><\/p>\n<p><!-- <link rel=\"stylesheet\" href=\"\"> --><\/p>\n<div class=\"grid-container\">\n<section class=\"gdm-newsletter-banner__container\">\n<div class=\"gdm-newsletter-banner__wrapper-container gdm-newsletter-banner__wrapper-container--article\">\n<div class=\"gdm-newsletter-banner-info__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"gdm-newsletter-banner-logo__container\">\n                    <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.packaging-gateway.com\/wp-content\/themes\/goodlife-wp-B2B\/assets\/images\/newsletter-new.svg\" alt=\"Email newsletter icon\"\/>\n                <\/div>\n<p><h3 class=\"gdm-newsletter-banner__heading wp-noreslt\">Sign up for our daily news round-up!<\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"gdm-newsletter-banner__sub-heading\">Give your business an edge with our leading industry insights.<\/h3>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<p><!-- Newsletter banner end --><\/p>\n<footer class=\"article-footer\">\n                                <!-- article-actions start --><\/p>\n<p><!-- .gdm-article-actions -->                                <!-- article-actions end --><br \/>\n                            <\/footer>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.packaging-gateway.com\/news\/avantium-kirin-pef-packaging\/\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Releaf is set to be applied in Kirin\u2019s beverage portfolio.
