{"id":587,"date":"2024-07-02T23:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-07-03T03:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.packagingindustrynews.com\/?p=587"},"modified":"2024-07-02T23:00:00","modified_gmt":"2024-07-03T03:00:00","slug":"symingtons-porridge-brand-first-in-uk-to-choose-recyclable-k3-r100-from-greiner","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.packagingindustrynews.com\/?p=587","title":{"rendered":"Symington\u2019s porridge brand first in UK to choose recyclable K3\u00ae r100 from Greiner"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<br \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Symington\u2019s has been using Greiner Packaging\u2019s K3\u00ae cardboard-plastic packaging solution for its Naked brand instant noodles since 2021 and is now the first UK food producer to move its Oatburst instant porridge brand to Greiner\u2019s award winning K3\u00ae r100 self-separating variant.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe K3\u00ae r100 product innovation has made the impossible possible,\u201d says <a href=\"https:\/\/www.packagingstrategies.com\/articles\/104071-greiner-helps-ireland-based-yogurt-brand-nomadic-with-bold-new-look\" id=\"\">Greiner Packaging<\/a> UK &amp; Ireland Sustainability and Innovation Manager Rachel Sheldon. \u201cThe cardboard wrap and plastic packaging separate from each other without human intervention during the waste disposal process.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis means that achieving a high recyclability rate (up to 98%) does not depend on proper separation by the end consumer \u2013 which was the case with all previous K3\u00ae packaging \u2013 as it now happens completely independently before the used packaging reaches the recycling facility.\u201d<\/p>\n<h4><strong>K3\u00ae r100\u2019s sustainability credentials are a perfect match<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>\u201cOatburst is ideal for people on the go, so we are delighted that however consumers dispose of the empty container when they have finished enjoying their instant porridge snack, the two packaging materials will self-separate to enable recycling during the waste disposal process,\u201d says Symington\u2019s Finance Director Julian Wetton.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were already fans of the original K3\u00ae packaging solution from Greiner Packaging, but this new K3\u00ae r100 development is really exciting as we can be confident that we have put a perfectly recyclable product into the market.\u201d<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Award winning K3\u00ae r100<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Invented by Greiner Packaging over 40 years ago, and designed for recycling, the K3\u00ae cardboard-plastic cup is not only convenient and features an appealing look \u2013 its sustainability characteristics are extremely attractive, too. It features a unique tear-tab so that consumers can intuitively separate the cardboard outer wrap from the lightweight plastic cup to enable recycling.<\/p>\n<p>With the latest development, K3\u00ae r100, the materials separate themselves before they reach the near-infrared detection (NIR) system at the recycling facility, leading to proper detection, sorting and recycling.
