It\u2019s estimated that one million plastic bottles are purchased every minute, and according to the\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.unep.org\/interactives\/beat-plastic-pollution\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">UN Environment Programme<\/a>, plastic can now mark our current geological era, the Anthropocene, through fossil records, and a new marine microbial habitat is now called a \u201c<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/esajournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/abs\/10.1890\/150017\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">plastisphere<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One of plastic\u2019s greatest appeals is its durability, but it also has one of its most significant drawbacks. When used for packaging, once it\u2019s no longer useful, it\u2019s discarded, ending up in landfills or, worse, the environment, where it lingers for many years.
