Berlin Packaging has agreed to purchase sustainable polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottle caps from technology company Origin Materials.<\/p>\n

The deal will see Berlin Packaging procure PET 1881 caps for sale and distribution to its customer network, which includes multiple beverage manufacturers.<\/p>\n

The partnership is also said to leverage Berlin Packaging\u2019s global distribution capabilities.<\/p>\n

The move aims to enhance the availability of these packaging solutions for the beverage industry.<\/p>\n

Origin Materials CEO John Bissell said: \u201cWhen we first connected with Berlin Packaging, the potential, vision, and strong degree of alignment was obvious.<\/p>\n

\u201cTheir broad and deep distribution footprint not only immediately extends our market reach for 1881 but also opens the door for all our forthcoming formats across all closure applications globally.\u201d<\/p>\n

The PET 1881 caps are designed to facilitate lighter packaging solutions and extend product shelf life.<\/p>\n

They are classified as monomaterial containers, which improve recyclability and support circular economy initiatives, according to the company.<\/p>\n

The caps can be produced using 100% post-consumer recycled (PCR) PET, making them suitable for food-grade applications, in contrast to many polypropylene and high-density polyethylene alternatives.<\/p>\n

The manufacturing process for the caps involves thermoforming, differing from the conventional injection-moulding technique.<\/p>\n

Berlin Packaging sustainability vice-president Balaji Jayaseelan said: \u201cAt Berlin Packaging, our sustainability strategy is focused on innovation, collaboration, and measurable impact.<\/p>\n

Berlin Packaging is claimed to be the world\u2019s largest hybrid packaging supplier of glass, plastic, and metal containers and closures.<\/p>\n

It has a network of 1,700 suppliers, offers over 55,000 stock-keeping units, and operates more than 100 locations worldwide.<\/p>\n

The company provides a range of packaging manufacturing, distribution, and value-added services.<\/p>\n

Last month, Berlin Packaging acquired Italian company Cosmei<\/a>, which specialises in creating streamlined essentials and custom designs in collaboration with beauty brands.<\/p>\n
