SIG has received recognition from the Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR) for its SIG Terra RecShield BD bag-in-box packaging, which includes the SIG Terra FlexTap.<\/p>\n

The APR Design for Recyclability Recognition serves as third-party validation that a packaging component is compatible with North American recycling infrastructure.<\/p>\n

This acknowledgement confirms that the packaging meets the stringent criteria for recyclability outlined in the APR Design Guide for Plastics Recyclability, according to the company.<\/p>\n

SIG stated that this marks a significant achievement, as it is the company\u2019s first wine packaging solution to gain APR Design Recognition.<\/p>\n

The bag-in-box wine solution not only meets high recyclability standards but also ensures product protection and dispensing functionality, allowing brands to achieve performance as well as sustainability objectives, said SIG.<\/p>\n

The newly acknowledged packaging has undergone validation through APR\u2019s Critical Guidance Protocol (FPE-CG-01 Path 1A).<\/p>\n

This protocol is reportedly recognised as the most rigorous pathway for establishing recyclability in North America.<\/p>\n

SIG film development, bag-in-box, and spouted pouch global head Teresa Bernal-Lara said: \u201cWine brings unique packaging challenges, particularly when it comes to balancing oxygen barrier, ease of dispensing, and robustness throughout conversion, filling, and distribution\u00a0with recyclability.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith SIG Terra RecShield BD, we\u2019ve developed a recycle-ready laminate that performs under the rigorous demands of wine distribution and preservation.\u201d<\/p>\n

SIG noted that this recognition is the third for SIG\u2019s Terra portfolio, with each product designed for specific applications while advancing sustainable packaging practices.<\/p>\n

Other APR-accredited, recycle-ready products include the SIG Terra RecShield PE-42B solution for water, recognised in 2021, and the SIG Terra RecShield D solution for post-mix syrup, recognised in 2024.<\/p>\n

Last month, SIG partnered with PulPac<\/a>, a company specialising in Dry Moulded Fiber technology, to develop paper-based closures for its aseptic cartons.<\/p>\n
