{"id":9126,"date":"2025-09-05T00:00:58","date_gmt":"2025-09-05T04:00:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.packagingindustrynews.com\/?p=9126"},"modified":"2025-09-05T00:00:58","modified_gmt":"2025-09-05T04:00:58","slug":"new-collective-aims-to-harmonize-sustainability-data-unveils-oregon-epr-reporting-template","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.packagingindustrynews.com\/?p=9126","title":{"rendered":"New Collective Aims to Harmonize Sustainability Data, Unveils Oregon EPR Reporting Template"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<br \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.specright.com\/\" id=\"\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Specright<\/a>, a leader in Specification Management software, recently announced the formation of the <strong>Sustainable Packaging Data Council<\/strong>, a new collective with the goal of harmonizing data to impact packaging sustainability.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCompanies today are challenged with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.packagingstrategies.com\/articles\/105555-video-establishing-robust-data-systems-for-epr-compliance\" id=\"\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">collecting and reporting on sustainability data<\/a> to meet evolving regulatory requirements, here in the U.S. and globally,\u201d Specright says. \u201cOftentimes, the challenge stems from not having a clear understanding of reporting requirements or full access to packaging data, particularly from suppliers.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The newly formed Sustainable Packaging Data Council aims to create templates of data requirements for Reporting Entities\/Brand Owners that will guide the packaging supply chain in meeting expectations and enhancing awareness and quality of information for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.packagingstrategies.com\/topics\/4241-extended-producer-responsibility-epr\" id=\"\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Extended Producer Responsibility<\/a> (EPR).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSustainability initiatives are more than checking a regulatory box. There is a shared responsibility of all companies to do better for the planet, and we\u2019re establishing this council to empower them to do just that,\u201d said Matthew Wright, Specright Founder and Executive Chairman. \u201cThrough this collaborative effort, companies cannot only work together on this common goal, but ultimately will spend less time chasing data and more time innovating and driving true impact.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Founding members include leading retailers and brands like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.packagingstrategies.com\/articles\/105563-clean-cult-reaches-agreement-to-offer-products-at-costco-locations-nationwide\" id=\"\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Costco<\/a>, Tyson Foods, Central Garden &amp; Pet, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.packagingstrategies.com\/articles\/105843-sonocos-stance-on-supporting-the-shifting-packaging-compliance-landscape\" id=\"\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Sonoco<\/a>, Atlantic Packaging, technology partners, like Lorax EPI and Trayak, sustainable packaging non-profits, like How2Recycle, industry analysts, and academia programs like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.packagingstrategies.com\/articles\/105876-msu-researchers-develop-recyclable-solution-for-multilayer-plastics\" id=\"\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Michigan State University<\/a>. Specright serves as the council host and technology partner in building the templates.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBeing part of the Sustainable Packaging Data Council has proven the power of involving the whole value chain,\u201d said Caroline DeLoach, Director of Sustainability, Atlantic Packaging. \u201cAs we discussed the minutiae of the data requirements for EPR reporting, we drilled down into what data are truly necessary for effective EPR in a way that could only be done by representatives across the entire supply chain. If we can help others collect more complete and better data, we will necessarily make packaging EPR more effective.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Council has been meeting weekly in 2025 for collaborative discussions and ultimately aligning on its first deliverable\u2014reporting attributes for Oregon\u2019s EPR reporting requirements, which is now in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.specright.com\/one-pager\/extended-producer-responsibility-epr-reporting-template-for-oregon\" id=\"\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">downloadable template<\/a>.
