Swedish plastic fabrication company Gaia Biomaterials has signed an agreement with Dubai-based RA International for the distribution of its compostable plastic alternative, Biodolomer, in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region.<\/p>\n

RA International will establish a dedicated business unit to manage the Biodolomer product line.<\/p>\n

First customer deliveries are anticipated in the first quarter (Q1) of 2026.<\/p>\n

The deal comes as Gulf countries face environmental challenges due to high consumption of packaging materials and single-use plastics.<\/p>\n

Covering all GCC countries, the agreement will initially concentrate on the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Saudi Arabia, and Qatar.<\/p>\n

These nations are reportedly seeking sustainable solutions, with the UAE aiming for zero waste to landfill by 2030 and Saudi Arabia pursuing a 100% diversion from landfill as part of its Vision 2030.<\/p>\n

Gaia Biomaterials CEO Peter Stenstr\u00f6m said: \u201cEntering the GCC region is very exciting. We have received many inquiries over the past years, but RA International has conducted research in a way that is unique. They also demonstrate a genuine commitment to sustainability and have deep knowledge of the region.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to the company, Biodolomer, a limestone-based material, is versatile enough for both soft and rigid packaging applications and is compatible with nearly all plastic conversion technologies.<\/p>\n

Certified compostable in the EU and the US, Biodolomer does not produce microplastics and is free from per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances and other added chemicals.<\/p>\n

The compost generated from Biodolomer is calcium-rich, making it ideal for landscaping purposes, the group said. <\/p>\n

RA International\u00a0founder and CEO Soraya Narfeldt said: \u201cAs there is little recycling infrastructure in place, a compostable material makes a lot of sense. <\/p>\n

\u201cOver the past six months, we have spoken to many stakeholders in the field, and the interest is very strong.\u201d<\/p>\n
