Medtech company Olympus has collaborated with DuPont de Nemours to develop environmentally responsible packaging solutions for its single-use endotherapeutic devices.<\/p>\n

The partnership will see Olympus incorporate DuPont\u2019s Tyvek with renewable attribution (RA) into the sterile packaging of more than 100 categories of single-use devices from 2026.<\/p>\n

The solution, launched in November 2024<\/a>, is designed to reduce the carbon footprint associated with healthcare packaging.<\/p>\n

Tyvek with RA employs a certified mass balance approach that integrates renewable feedstocks, thereby decreasing reliance on fossil fuels and minimising the carbon footprint of medical packaging.<\/p>\n

Olympus executive officer and chief technology officer Syed Naveed stated: \u201cAs a global medtech company, we recognise our responsibility to advance sustainability without compromising the trust and safety that patients and healthcare professionals expect from us.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe adoption of Tyvek with Renewable Attribution in our packaging marks a significant step in reducing our carbon footprint while preserving the integrity and safety of our medical devices.\u201d<\/p>\n

The initial phase of this collaboration will focus on the introduction of medical device packaging using DuPont Tyvek with RA at Olympus\u2019s manufacturing facilities in Japan and Vietnam.<\/p>\n

This will encompass more than 100 single-use device categories, including sampling and therapeutic devices for gastrointestinal and respiratory endoscopes.<\/p>\n

The transition to sustainable packaging is projected to reduce carbon emissions by one-third of the total carbon footprint of traditional Tyvek.<\/p>\n

Olympus plans to gradually expand the initiative to additional manufacturing sites and product lines in future phases.<\/p>\n

David Domnisch, vice-president and general manager of DuPont, stated: \u201cTyvek with renewable attribution is designed to help reduce the carbon footprint of a product while providing a drop-in solution that can be seamlessly integrated into existing healthcare packaging products.<\/p>\n
