ProAmpac reports 3.59% increase in scope 1 emissions for 2023

ProAmpac, a flexible packaging and material sciences company, has reported a 3.59% increase in its scope 1 emissions for 2023 compared to the 2021 baseline.

This increase is attributed to the enhanced capture and usage of refrigerants and a rise in fuel usage by fleet vehicles.

The data was provided in the company’s Sustainability Impact Report released yesterday (23 July).

Over the previous two years, the company reported no material changes in its scope 1 emissions.

The report also indicates that ProAmpac’s scope 2 emissions, based on market factors, decreased by 0.89% in 2023 compared to the baseline, thanks to new renewable energy sourcing programmes at multiple sites.

Conversely, ProAmpac’s scope 2 location-based emissions saw an increase of 3.99% in 2023 compared to the baseline year.

The company said that it witnessed increased revenue since 2021, with 20% of its revenue from recyclable products and 770% from compostable products.

The company also achieved a 13.89% reduction in waste sent to landfill compared to the 2021 baseline.

During the year, ProAmpac launched the Fiberization of Packaging initiative, which introduced fibre-based solutions as an alternative to traditional film packaging.

Additionally, the ProActive Recyclable RP-1000 Series was introduced, a product line prequalified for kerbside recycling that can be recycled in paper and mixed streams.

ProAmpac founder, vice-chair, and CEO Greg Tucker said: “As we look ahead, ProAmpac is committed to developing a comprehensive GHG [greenhouse gas] reduction strategy by setting goals aligned with the Science-Based Targets Initiative (SBTi).

“Furthermore, we recognise the power of collaboration and will engage with our suppliers and customers to foster a collective commitment to sustainability. Together, we can create a pathway for a more sustainable tomorrow.”

Last month, ProAmpac unveiled its new kerbside recyclable insulated bag for the food and grocery delivery industry.
