Australian-based “ideas clubhouse” Pembleton has launched a new line of sunscreen called “Evil Ray.” The brand identity centers on the idea that the sun is our skin’s mortal enemy, seeking to kill us with UV rays, hence the sun-trashing name.
Inspired by the maximalism of 80s Aussie surf brands, Pembleton partnered with artist and musician Reg Mombassa, known for his work for surf apparel brand Mambo, for the Evil Ray. Mombassa turns the sun into a menacing cyclops, sporting a sinister, toothy grin and an outer layer of curved rays that resemble shark teeth. Between these rays are arrows, presumably pointing downward towards us, and two pairs of sweat beads surround the singular, partially squinting eye
