Stahl acquires WEILBURGER Graphics

Stahl, a global specialty coatings for flexible materials company, has announced the acquisition of Germany-based coatings, inks, and adhesives manufacturer WEILBURGER Graphics.

Financial terms of the transaction have not been disclosed.

WEILBURGER Graphics has been offering water-based and energy-cured coatings for the graphic arts and packaging industry.

The company reported sales of €70m ($77.68m) in 2023 and employs more than 140 people, primarily in Germany.

Completion of the deal is subject to customary approvals.

WEILBURGER Graphics managing director Günter Korbacher said: “We look forward to joining the Stahl Group to combine our expertise and grow our worldwide presence in packaging coatings. Stahl is a prominent and respected brand, and with our complementary product portfolios, geographical coverage and our alignment with the QIS principle which covers the success factors of quality, innovation and sustainability, we will create a well-rounded and truly global offering for the market.”

The acquisition significantly bolsters Stahl’s newly formed packaging coatings division and aligns with its strategy to enhance its global reach in flexible materials.

The integration of WEILBURGER Graphics into Stahl’s operations is expected to accelerate the expansion of its packaging coatings offerings on a global scale.

Stahl CEO Maarten Heijbroek said: “The acquisition further strengthens our packaging coatings business, building on the acquisition of ICP Industrial Solutions Group (ISG) in March 2023.

“Importantly, it will enhance our position in the European packaging coatings market with its innovative portfolio in growth markets like food and beverages, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals, unique expertise, state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities and a distinct focus on sustainability. I have gotten to know the WEILBURGER Graphics team as one of the best in the industry.”

In May 2024, KANSAI HELIOS acquired GREBE Holding’s entire industrial coatings business WEILBURGER Coatings in Germany.
