DS Smith’s sustainable packaging solutions win top honours at AGRA

DS Smith, a leading provider of sustainable packaging solutions, has been recognised for its innovative approach to packaging design at the 62nd International Fair of Agriculture and Food (AGRA) in Slovenia.

The company’s ‘Protection for Car Wheel Carriers’ solution was awarded the prestigious Packaging Oscar, a top accolade in the industry.

The winning entry impressed the event’s expert jury with its sustainable, fibre-based design.

The corrugated cardboard packaging replaces harmful traditional Styrofoam inserts, offering a more environmentally friendly and efficient solution for storing, transporting, and delivering heavy industrial products.

The design is optimised for space, assembly, and reusability, promoting a circular economy approach.

In addition to the winning entry, DS Smith’s ‘Universal Protection for Household Blenders’ packaging solution was also nominated for an award.

This innovative solution also utilises corrugated cardboard to replace polystyrene inserts, reducing material waste and increasing the volume of products that can be transported.

The result is a more sustainable supply chain for these products with lower carbon emissions.

“We are extremely proud to receive the Slovenian Packaging Oscar award and to have two of our packaging solutions among the top five Oscar nominees,” said Gabriel Balogh, managing director of DS Smith Slovenia.

“This is a testament that we are on the right path in developing sustainable packaging solutions from renewable sources and following circular economy principles.”

The AGRA fair is the largest event of its kind in the country, attracting more than 1,500 participants from around the world annually.

DS Smith’s participation in the fair showcased its dedication to providing sustainable packaging solutions that meet the evolving needs of the market.

As part of its Now & Next sustainability strategy, DS Smith said it is committed to leading the industry towards a circular economy.

The company is helping to reduce waste, protect the environment, and create a more sustainable future via its solutions.
