Amcor secures EcoVadis Gold medal for sustainability

Amcor has been granted the EcoVadis Gold medal for its notable sustainability practices in the development and production of packaging solutions.

The company’s overall score improved to 73 from 70, placing it in the 95th percentile of companies evaluated by EcoVadis, marking its position among the top 5% of all companies assessed.

This accolade is a testament to the company’s commitment to sustainability and its effective implementation of impactful initiatives.

The EcoVadis Gold medal is a recognition that highlights Amcor’s extensive efforts in sustainable practices, particularly noting its rank in the top 1% of companies within its sector for sustainable procurement.

Amcor chief sustainability officer David Clark said: “We understand that our customers seek partners who not only share their values and support their strategic goals but also consistently demonstrate the highest standards. We are thrilled that EcoVadis has recognised Amcor’s with a Gold medal. It serves as a testament to our dedication and the tangible progress we’ve made in our journey.”

EcoVadis conducts its assessments based on a company’s performance in environmental practices, labour and human rights, ethics, and procurement.

These assessments are derived from 21 issues aligned with international standards.

Amcor not only undergoes this assessment annually but also mandates that its strategic and critical suppliers complete EcoVadis assessments, ensuring high standards and risk management across its supply chain.

In the fiscal year 2024, 85% of Amcor’s strategic and critical suppliers, accounting for $4bn in spend, completed recent EcoVadis assessments.

The company has been offering flexible and rigid packaging, speciality cartons and closures across a range of industries, including food, beverage, pharmaceutical, medical, home and personal care, among others.

In September 2024, the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) officially approved Amcor’s long-term carbon reduction targets.
