Move Over Apple, Pepsi Unveils ‘Smart Cans’

What if you could turn a soda can into a smartphone?

That’s a question probably few outside of PepsiCo have ever pondered. Recently, however, the beverage giant decided to realize the concept and showed it off last week at Cannes Lions.

Pepsi’s Smart Can isn’t designed to replace conventional aluminum cans. There’s no sugary, fizzy cola inside the Smart Cans. The soda is replaced with modern electronics that power the interactive, flexible LED display panel and sound system. A SIM card inside provides mobile connectivity and the ability to tailor “storytelling” to the viewer.
