Sappi Europe releases one-side-coated paperboard product

Packaging, speciality and graphic papers producer Sappi Europe has launched Algro Volume as its latest addition to its paperboard range.

Produced at the company’s Maastricht Mill in the Netherlands, the paperboard is made of 100% virgin fibres, making it fully recyclable.

Algro Volume covers compliance features such as odour neutrality and suitability for direct food contact as per BfR [the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment] XXXVI, the US Food and Drug Administration and Austrian food legislation.

The product can also be supplied as Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Mix Credit or 100% Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) certified upon request.

Available in both sheets and reels, Algro Volume supports finishing techniques, including embossing, varnishing and foil lamination, and offset, flexo and screen-printing processes.

End uses for packaging cover the pharmaceutical, confectionery, food and beverage, and beauty and personal care industries.

Sappi Europe director of packaging and dye sublimation Luis Mata stated: “Algro Volume is designed to fulfil the rigorous physical demands typically reserved for solid bleached boards. The multiform base composition optimises stiffness and bulk, and together with Sappi’s coating capability ensures printing and finishing performance.”

Sappi recently reported positive financial results for the second quarter of the financial year 2024, with growth stemming primarily from strong demand for dissolving pulp and cost savings across the company.
