Hinojosa Packaging earns third EcoVadis gold medal

Hinojosa Packaging Group has achieved its highest score to date on the EcoVadis sustainability rating platform, securing the gold medal for the third consecutive year.

With 78 points out of 100, the company now ranks in the top 5% of the best-rated companies, marking a significant milestone in its sustainability journey since 2020.

The EcoVadis assessment evaluates a range of nonfinancial management systems, including environmental impact, labour practices, human rights, and sustainable procurement.

Hinojosa has made progress, especially in its environmental and labour practices, improving scores by ten points in each area to reach 90 and 80, respectively.

Hinojosa’s environmental achievements are highlighted by its commitment to the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi), with goals to reduce scope 1 and 2 emissions by 60% and scope 3 emissions by 42% by 2030.

Hinojosa reduced its emissions by 16% in 2023 compared to 2022 and aims to achieve net zero by 2050 and currently sources 71% of its energy for production from renewable sources.

The company’s waste recovery rate exceeded 95% and it increased the use of renewable energy in production by 7%.

The company’s efforts in labour practices and human rights have also been acknowledged. Initiatives such as the FP Dual programme and the creation of Hinojosa Cathedra with Universitat Politècnica de València have had an impact.

Moreover, adherence to the Hinojosa Safety Model by employees has resulted in a nearly 50% reduction in global occupational injuries.

EcoVadis rates more than 90,000 companies globally, awarding medals to those with outstanding performance. After a bronze in 2020 and a silver in 2021, Hinojosa received gold medals in the subsequent years.

The assessments also provide companies with feedback on strengths and areas for improvement, enabling Hinojosa to focus its sustainability efforts and develop action plans for continuous improvement.
