Mondi and Dobis partner for sustainable paper shopping bags

Polish paper packaging manufacturer Dobis has partnered with sustainable packaging and paper manufacturer Mondi to enhance production efficiency and refine its paper grades for shopping bags.

The collaboration targets the fashion, fast-food, and retail sectors, offering sustainable options by reducing paper weight while ensuring durability and high print quality for premium shopping bags.

Dobis uses a variety of papers, including the Eco/Vantage range, supplied by Mondi for converting.

Dobis sales director Arkadiusz Starzyński said: “With Mondi, Dobis is pushing the boundaries of sustainable paper bags. By using Mondi’s Eco/Vantage paper with water-based inks, Dobis has achieved high-speed production with lower ink consumption and lower costs.

“In addition, by optimising the paper quality, we have minimised glue consumption during folding and glueing, thereby achieving our sustainability goals.”

The shift towards lighter papers has enabled Dobis to cut down on material usage.

The Eco/Vantage Light Fashion paper, made entirely from recycled fibres, is designed for fashion and gift bags.

Meanwhile, EcoVantage Kraft Pro, containing 20% recycled content and ISEGA food approval, is suitable for fast food and grocery use.

The Eco/Vantage Kraft Classic, with 50% recycled content, offers the necessary strength and printability for food and fashion packaging, aligning with Dobis’ requirements.

The Eco/Vantage Retail portfolio is tailored to meet specific needs, offering high strength, excellent runnability, and closed-loop possibilities for retailers.

Mondi Speciality Kraft Paper regional sales director Gerhard Pachler said: “Over the past three years, Dobis has relied on Mondi’s broad portfolio of paper products, ranging from 100% fresh fibre to papers with recycled content.

“The collaboration has helped us to do extensive research to test and select the ideal papers for different applications so that Dobis can meet its high quality and efficiency standards.”

In October this year, Mondi launched a new recyclable paper bag, IntegoBag, for the construction industry.
