Magnomer joins as Canada Plastics Pact partner

Massachusetts-based startup Magnomer, which offers functional coatings technology, has joined the Canada Plastics Pact (CPP) as partner.

This partnership is aimed at advancing a circular economy for plastics.

Magnomer provides patented technology for functional coatings aimed at converting challenging packaging components into designs that are more conducive to recycling.

The company’s Magmark SS coatings enhance the recyclability of packaging by introducing magnetisation and optical detectability to shrink sleeves, facilitating straightforward sorting and separation during recycling processes.

These coatings are transparent, safe for food contact, and can be printed on labels without compromising brand identity.

When applied to PETG, Magmark SS coatings enable the material to be easily captured and recycled within existing recycling systems.

The CPP has announced Hilton Foods and Multy as new members alongside Magnomer.

Canada Plastics Pact managing director Cher Mereweather said: “We are pleased to see a growing number of leaders and experts in the plastics value chain joining us.

“We look forward to working with these new Partners to develop, test, and scale bold, innovative solutions that will address plastic waste and pollution, and advance the circular economy for plastics in Canada.”

Hilton Foods, a global company operating in ten countries, supplies products to retail and foodservice partners in 19 markets, reaching over 160 million consumers in more than 20 markets.

Multy, with its manufacturing and distribution presence in Canada, Poland, and the US, offers a wide range of products including patio living items, planters, gardening products, and floor protection mats.
