PlasticList, a group of researchers interested in the amount of endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDC) in our food, recently released their findings based on over 300 different kinds of samples collected from the San Francisco Bay area. Unsurprisingly, plastic is in everything we ingest, including fast food, raw ingredients, organic foods, baby food, breast milk, and even prenatal vitamins.
Phthalates and bisphenols, two types of common plastic, are really bad because they have widespread adverse effects on everything from the brain and our nether regions to other parts of the reproductive system.
It isn’t just our junk that EDCs mess with, either. These chemicals can lead to behavioral issues like anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem. While the mountains of plastic piling up in the environment are enough to make us anxious and depressed, that trash is also chemically giving us the blues.
