While it very much seems like brands are retreating to their plastic bubbles and scaling back on their sustainability goals here in the United States (Hi, Coca-Cola!), it might be a different story overseas in Europe. Sure, they can’t beat us regarding B-action movies, but they have our number concerning single-use plastics.
Case in point? Nestle France recently started trialing a returnable stainless steel container for KitKat Balls and Lion Pops—I didn’t even know KitKat came in a ball format, so it shows what I know. The partnership with Le Fourgnon, Circolution, and BocoLoco will take place over six months in France, seeking to cut down on single-use plastics in the candy world.
All shoppers need to do is put down a deposit of €2.00 (and the cost, naturally), gobble up their sweets inside the Circolution steel containers, and Le Fourgnon will collect the containers, where they will be cleaned and put back into circulation once again.
