Discussions centered on achieving a return on investment, overcoming implementation challenges, and determining the suitability of smart packaging solutions for various businesses.

Kasia Little, Digital Experiences Manager at Bayer, highlighted the importance of company-wide understanding of connected packaging’s value, stating, “If you think there’s a case to be made, let everyone know and make sure the reasons are heard loud and clear.”

Recognition of industry innovation and talent

The Innovation Gallery at the event showcased the top 10 packaging innovations from a record 147 entries.

Featured innovations included compostable gel-based temperature controls, refillable detergent pouches, high-barrier films, and plastic-free shrink sleeves. Attendees had the opportunity to vote for the most groundbreaking solutions, reflecting the industry’s commitment to sustainability and forward-thinking design.

Additionally, the Future Trailblazer Awards recognized emerging talent poised to influence the industry’s future. Winners included Aden Newbury from Kingfisher for Production Delivery and Hope Fletcher from Unilever for Sustainable Thinking.

The Lifetime Achievement award was presented to Keith Barnes, honoring his over 60 years of contribution to the sector.
