SBTi approves APC’s emissions reduction targets

American Packaging Corporation (APC), a company specialising in flexible packaging solutions, has confirmed that the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has officially approved its near-term emissions reduction targets.

APC has set a target to cut its absolute scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 58.8% by 2034, using 2023 as the base year.

It also aims to reduce scope 3 GHG emissions from purchased goods and upstream and downstream transportation by 63.8% per million square feet of production within the same timeframe.

APC corporate EHS director Kate Koenitzer said: “APC has heightened ambitions around reducing greenhouse gas emissions and our overall impact on the environment.

“Committing to science-based targets through the SBTi reflects APC’s continued commitment to be a valued resource and support our customer’s decarbonisation initiatives.”

Science-based targets reportedly provide a clear framework for companies to reduce their GHG emissions and secure long-term growth.

APC innovation and sustainability manager Jeff Travis said: “We are gratified our near-term targets have been validated by SBTi.

“These targets are a principal element of APC’s sustainability strategy and our journey contributing to the improvement of our world environment.

“American Packaging is developing and delivering sustainable packaging technologies that protect consumer products, lessens environmental impact, and collaborates with our customers’ decarbonisation goals.”

In December last year, APC introduced new recyclable paper packaging.

The new packaging technology was the latest addition to APC’s RE sustainable packaging portfolio.

Established in 1902, APC is a family-owned business, and currently operates six Centers of Excellence in the US.
