Mondi boosts capacity with Schumacher Packaging’s Western European assets

Mondi, a sustainable packaging solutions provider, has completed the acquisition of Schumacher Packaging’s Western European operations into its offerings.

The deal will expand Mondi’s product range and production capacity by adding more than one billion square metres of packaging production capacity to its facilities.

Mondi said this expanded capacity reinforces its commitment to delivering environmentally sustainable packaging at scale.

Key to the acquisition are two large-scale box manufacturing plants in Ebersdorf and Greven, Germany.

These additions will enhance Mondi’s portfolio with solid board options, offering e-commerce and fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) clients sustainable packaging that safeguards products and improves logistics efficiency.

Mondi Group CEO Andrew King said: “This acquisition significantly strengthens our corrugated packaging business, extending our footprint in Western Europe and offering strong vertical integration opportunities.

“We are delighted to welcome our new Schumacher Packaging colleagues to Mondi.

“Together we will expand our e-commerce and FMCG offering, particularly in Western Europe, presenting exciting opportunities to introduce the group’s unique range of products to a wider array of customers as they increasingly transition towards more sustainable packaging solutions.”

Customers from Schumacher Packaging will gain access to Mondi’s product line, sustainability credentials, and supply chain systems.

The combination of expertise from both companies will help reduce waste and lower carbon emissions while improving operational efficiencies.

Mondi Group Corrugated Packaging CEO Markus Gärtner said: “This acquisition is all about delivering more for our customers – greater capacity, enhanced supply security, and a broader range of sustainable packaging solutions to help them succeed.

“Bringing together the expertise of our new colleagues from Schumacher Packaging with Mondi’s capabilities strengthens our offering even further, enabling us to drive greater innovation and value for the customers we serve.”

This February, Mondi launched re/cycle SpoutedPouch, a new sustainable paint packaging solution.
