I won’t pretend nor attempt to understand why the internet obsesses over the most benign things. Maybe it’s because there’s no “show about nothing” like Seinfeld on air to watch and ponder the little things we all understand collectively. I suppose social media fills that void these days.
One of those things is the fast-casual chain Chipotle’s fork. This simple, black piece of single-use plastic (which continues to be bad for the environment, by the way) has reached meme proportions, with folks all across the web swearing their Chipotle bowls taste better when eaten with this humble and wasteful utensil over, say, the reusable and washable forks you already have at home.
Chipotle is well aware of the phenomenon and has leaned into the meme, even sending someone a box full of forks when a content creator made a video complaining about not getting one of these signature “al dente” utensils.
