Ardagh Glass Packaging, CAP Glass collaborate on glass recycling initiative

Ardagh Glass Packaging-North America (AGP-North America), a division of Ardagh Group, has entered into a long-term agreement with CAP Glass to enhance glass recycling services across the US.

This partnership aims to reduce the volume of glass waste sent to landfills by implementing a comprehensive system for collecting, sorting, processing, and recycling glass bottles.

CAP Glass will supply AGP-North America with “high-quality cullet”, which is essential for the production of new glass containers.

The collaboration will utilise advanced technology at CAP Glass to ensure the cullet meets the necessary quality standards for AGP-North America’s glass manufacturing operations.

This initiative is part of AGP-North America’s strategy to establish a closed-loop recycling system that promotes the continuous recycling and reuse of glass materials.

The use of high-quality cullet is expected to enhance the overall quality of the glass containers produced while minimising the environmental footprint of the manufacturing process.

CAP Glass owner Shawn Pilla said: “We are confident that our venture will yield remarkable results for all parties and will contribute to our shared goal of reducing glass going to landfills and seeing it made into new glass containers.”

By redirecting glass from landfills and repurposing it into new packaging, the partnership aims to lower waste levels, reduce environmental impact, and conserve natural resources.

This effort aligns with the goal of fostering a sustainable circular economy.

Ardagh Glass Packaging-North America procurement vice president Derek Wall said: “Ardagh appreciates the valuable contributions from CAP Glass, as well as their forward-thinking approach and dedication to bringing this vision to life.

“Their innovative ideas and long-term vision have played a pivotal role in making this collaboration a success.”

AGP-North America has been a producer of glass bottles in the US for over 125 years, offering a diverse range of premium glass products in various colours, sizes, styles, and finishes.

Last month, AGP-North America finished building a solar facility at its glass manufacturing plant in Madera, California, US.
