KIND pilots recyclable paper wrapper for snack bars in US

KIND Snacks has launched a trial of its first paper-based, kerbside-recyclable wrapper in the US.

The initiative is part of the company’s broader commitment to improving packaging sustainability.

It represents progress towards KIND’s 2030 target for fully recyclable packaging across its products.

The wrapper was developed in collaboration with Printpack, a packaging manufacturer headquartered in Atlanta, which operates facilities across the US and Mexico.

Printpack chief strategy officer David Love said: “Developing a recyclable paper wrapper in less than two years demonstrates remarkable progress in sustainable packaging innovation.

“This breakthrough sets a new standard for sustainable solutions in the food packaging industry and shows what’s possible when companies prioritise environmental stewardship.”

The material used in the wrapper meets How2Recycle’s kerbside recyclability criteria.

The development is aimed at enhancing recycling options available to consumers and contributes to wider efforts to reduce landfill waste from single-use wrappers.

The trial will run from 1 May to 1 October 2025 at select Whole Foods Market locations.

Stores taking part are located in states such as New York, California, and Texas.

The packaging will initially be used only for single bars of KIND’s Dark Chocolate Nuts & Sea Salt product.

KIND North America CMO Osher Hoberman said: “At KIND, we’re constantly listening to our consumers, and what we hear is clear – they want products that not only deliver exceptional quality but also align with their values.

“This new paper wrapper pilot is a direct result of that feedback. We’re proud to continue to lead the industry with bold, forward-thinking and innovative solutions, not just for our packaging, but across our entire product portfolio.”
