Mondi’s Štětí paper machine in Czech Republic shows positive early results

Packaging and paper group Mondi has reported improved performance from its newly installed paper machine at the Štětí mill in the Czech Republic, allowing the company to better meet the rising demand for sustainable packaging.

The company noted that the initial production runs have shown positive outcomes in terms of material strength, machine performance, and product consistency.

The machine is intended to address increasing demand for flexible packaging made from paper and will contribute to improved efficiency across Mondi’s kraft paper production lines, Mondi said.

It also plays a role in reinforcing the company’s integrated paper bags operations.

Mondi aims to enhance the reliability of its kraft paper supply through this investment.

The machine expands Mondi’s kraft paper product range for industrial and construction uses, while supporting the production of various paper grades, including high-strength and porosity types.

The company is working towards offering packaging that is either recyclable, compostable, or reusable.

This move underscores Mondi’s ongoing efforts to contribute to a circular economy model.

Mondi Kraft Paper COO Roman Senecky said: “We are delighted to have started production on this paper machine. The project team did a fantastic job and ensured it was installed on time and in budget.

“The quality of the paper is exceptional, and we are impressed with how quickly we have been able to deliver paper that meets our customers’ expectations.”

Earlier this month, Mondi started operations at its Duino mill in Italy. The mill is focused on consistent output of high-quality recycled containerboard.

The company claimed that this product, derived from recovered fibre, is suitable for the production of lightweight corrugated packaging.
