Borealis, a polymer solutions provider, has made an investment exceeding €100m ($113.6m) for a new high melt strength polypropylene (HMS PP) line at its Burghausen facility in Germany.
The new line will produce an innovative polymer foam solution called Daploy HMS PP and triple the company’s supply capability for fully recyclable HMS PP, catering to the increasing demand for high-performance foam solutions that are environmentally friendly.
The material solutions are used in consumer products, as well as the automotive and building and construction industries.
The expansion is set to commence operations in the second half (H2) of 2026.
Daploy HMS PP’s versatility reportedly makes it suitable for a range of consumer products, including reusable coffee cups and food packaging, aligning with the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation.
The solution, developed at Borealis’ Innovation Headquarters in Linz, Austria, is designed for recycling and offers lightweight properties alongside mechanical strength.
Together, these features contribute to material efficiency, cost reduction, and lower carbon dioxide emissions, making it an ideal choice for monomaterial solutions that are easily recyclable at the end of their life cycle.

In March 2025, Borealis launched Borcycle M CWT120CL, a recycled linear low-density polyethylene grade, which is claimed to promote circularity in nonfood flexible packaging applications.
