Amcor launches shrink bag for Butterball’s turkey breast

Amcor, a global packaging solutions provider, has launched a sustainable packaging solution for Butterball’s turkey breast offerings.

The new Perflex shrink bag features a built-in handle, which minimises the quantity of packaging material utilised.

Amcor marketing manager Greta Shimon said: “Our ability to deliver the actual production specifications in prototype quantities allowed Butterball to gain authentic consumer feedback at each stage of the design.”

Traditional turkey packaging includes a net to provide a sturdy handle for carrying. By eliminating this extra packaging material, the design becomes more convenient and environmentally friendly, said Amcor.

Furthermore, as the manual netting process is eliminated, the new bag is claimed to improve efficiency.

The company said that the Perflex handle bag delivers notable enhancements in sustainability as against the incumbent netted turkey breast bag.

It delivers a 22% reduction in carbon emissions, a 23% decrease in reliance on non-renewable primary energy, and a 22% reduction in water usage.

Amcor’s Catalyst collaborative innovation team worked closely with Butterball to design and develop the new packaging solution.

The team used rapid prototyping methods to develop and assess various iterations for functionality and consumer appeal.

Butterball senior brand manager Valerie Saint Sing said: “We were pleased that Amcor’s solution was compatible with our existing packaging equipment so we could efficiently make the change.

“Consumers are constantly seeking protein options that are nutritious and easy to prepare. Our boneless turkey breast roast is the perfect solution for a delicious, convenient meal. This sleek new packaging will certainly make it stand out on the shelf.”

Earlier in June 2025, Amcor revealed a notable decrease in plastic consumption through its partnership with skincare brand Bulldog.
