Tetra Pak expands Binh Duong plant to enhance aseptic carton output

Tetra Pak, a company specialising in food processing and packaging, has introduced a second aseptic carton material production line at its Binh Duong site in Vietnam.

The €97m ($113m) upgrade strengthens the company’s focus on expansion across the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region, reported Asia Food Journal.

The new line finalises the plant’s enhancement, establishing the Binh Duong facility as one of the region’s most sophisticated aseptic carton production centres, according to the company.

It increases output capacity and adds the ability to create 15 new packaging types.

The move allows Tetra Pak to better cater to clients in Vietnam and other major markets in the region such as Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, the Philippines, Australia, and New Zealand.

The upgraded facility aims to assist brands in swiftly introducing new products with packaging that aligns with trends in convenience, health, and sustainability.

Specifically, the upgrade aims to meet the rising demand for ready-to-drink coffee in Singapore.

The plant includes Tetra Prisma Aseptic 1000 Square with HeliCap 27 and the Tetra Brik Aseptic 1000 Slim, which are said to have been designed for both multi-serve home use and in professional barista settings.

Tetra Pak has invested over €217m in the facility, generating more than 350 jobs and supporting local economic growth.

The plant holds Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Version 4 Gold certification and complies with World Class Manufacturing standards, incorporating AI-supported quality checks and ongoing initiatives to minimise energy use, waste, and water consumption.

Tetra Pak president and CEO Adolfo Orive was quoted by the news agency as saying: “Today is a commitment to the customers and communities we serve in Vietnam and across Asia-Pacific.

“By expanding our capabilities at Binh Duong, we’re helping food producers meet the needs of modern consumers with new, innovative and sustainable packaging solutions; while creating jobs, investing in local talent and contributing to the region’s economic growth.”

Last month, Cayuga Milk Ingredients and Tetra Pak opened an expanded facility in New York, US.
