Coveris collaborates with Brześć to introduce recyclable film for snack packaging

Coveris Rypin has joined forces with Polish confectionery company Brześć to create recyclable film packaging for its ‘puffs’ snacks.

The recyclable film packaging is claimed to offer high transparency, allowing shoppers to clearly see the product on display.

It is tailored for eight-colour flexographic printing, with choices of matte or glossy finishes to enhance Brześć’s brand image.

For over 40 years, Brześć has been producing both sweet and savoury confectionery items. Its flagship offerings are steamed dough products, particularly the mini eclairs (also known as crunchy puffs), mini puffs, and puffs designed for filling.

Its products are claimed to be popular in Poland, Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Lithuania, and can also be found in Dubai, Canada, and the US.

Brześć Sipa CEO Arkadiusz Drążek said: “The demand for recyclable packaging materials is aligned with the European Union Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation, which requires that all packaging placed on the EU market is recyclable by 2030.

“Our new packaging responds to this regulation and supports the reduction of packaging waste.

“Thanks to the trust and support of Coveris Rypin, we are planning to expand the production of monomaterial packaging across additional products in the near future.”

The partnership leverages Brześć’s established relationship with Hadepol Flexo, now integrated into Coveris Rypin after its acquisition by the Coveris Group in June 2024.

This collaboration has enabled the large-scale production of recyclable monomaterial film.

By adopting eco-friendly packaging for its key products, Brześć is claimed to be “well-positioned” to expand its market presence in Western Europe and the Middle East and North Africa region, supported by halal certifications for products suitable for Muslim consumers.

Coveris Rypin sales head Wojciech Jankowski said: “We are very pleased with the successful launch of puff products in recyclable BOPP [biaxially oriented polypropylene] films, produced at our Rypin facility.

“This sustainable alternative to nonrecyclable materials offers the same protective performance while saving resources and helping both suppliers and food chains in meeting their sustainability goals.”

Last November, Coveris invested in its PE extrusion facility in Winsford, Cheshire, UK, to bolster its capabilities for creating sustainable and recyclable films.
