Sustainalytics, a leading environmental, social and governance research company, evaluates entities across various industries based on their exposure to industry-specific sustainability risks and their management of those risks.

The ranking considers factors such as emissions, waste, resource use, and corporate governance.

Crown’s strong performance reflects the ongoing success of its ‘Twentyby30’ programme, which outlines 20 sustainability goals to be achieved by 2030.

The company has demonstrated particular strength in areas such as safety and governance, in addition to traditional sustainability metrics, including greenhouse gas emissions (GHG).

“Receiving a top industry ranking from Sustainalytics acknowledges Crown’s efforts to meet stakeholder expectations and continue driving a business that performs from every angle,” said John Rost, senior vice-president of Technology, Global Sustainability, and Regulatory Affairs at Crown.

“By scoring strongly across multiple categories, including safety, governance and others, we are demonstrating our commitment to making maximum impact not just in the traditional areas like GHG emissions reductions, but within every capacity possible. This comprehensive effort is what bolsters our ability to operate a responsible, healthy organisation long term.”

Crown’s low exposure to environmental risks, including emissions and waste, highlights its business model as inherently responsible and adaptable to evolving sustainability regulations.

The company is building on this foundation by expanding its use of renewable energy, implementing water replenishment initiatives, and driving recycling rates for aluminium and steel cans across the supply chain.

In March this year, Crown signed a 15-year agreement to purchase renewable electricity from a new solar power project in Spain.

The solar project will provide renewable electricity for all of Crown’s European operations covered by the Alliance of Issuing Bodies, a key energy certificate system in Europe.
