UFP Packaging introduces tool-free crating system

Industrial packaging solutions provider UFP Packaging has introduced the ‘U-Loc 200’ solution, a crate system that features a tool-free fastener designed for easy assembly and disassembly.

This new fastener, which is currently patent-pending, removes the necessity for traditional tools such as nail and staple guns, which are reportedly linked to approximately 37,000 emergency room visits each year.

This solution is suitable for packaging high-value items, including medical equipment, technology, glass products, and appliances.

The U-Loc 200 aims to provide a safer and more efficient solution for crating, with a design that is fully reusable, according to the company.

The fastener is constructed from flexible polyamide and includes a built-in ‘finger grip’ feature for straightforward application and removal.

Its reusable nature is enhanced by antislip teeth and two additional hooks that secure all corners of the crate, ensuring the required strength and stability to replace conventional nails.

By removing the need for pneumatic and prying tools, the U-Loc 200 protects sensitive products while maintaining the integrity of the crate, stated UFP.

UFP Packaging product development and marketing director Robert Bilbrough said: “After decades without meaningful change, the U-Loc 200 marks the next major innovation in open-style crating – one that finally puts worker safety first.”

UFP Packaging, which is based in Michigan, US, is a subsidiary of UFP Industries. It offers a range of packaging services, including metal fabrication, corrugated conversion, and labelling.

In March this year, UFP Packaging launched a new corrugated facility in Jeffersonville, Indiana, developed to enhance advanced graphics and production capabilities for the retail and e-commerce sectors.
