Shelf Life 077: 14 Pieces of Advice From Seasoned Designers and Founders That They Wish They Knew As A Student

In honor of Student Week on The Dieline, I’m dedicating this edition of Shelf Life to advice people wish they had known when they were students.

In college, I thought I had it all figured out. I believed I knew what hard work was and what it meant to push creative boundaries. But I quickly discovered that life after graduation redefines both. Hard work takes on a new meaning, and pushing the limits carries far more weight when rooted in a smart, well-thought-out concept.

So, I wanted to speak with designers, founders, and creative directors from brands and agencies like Walmart, Pearlfisher, Starbucks, Stranger & Stranger, and more. These (very) successful creatives shared what they wish they had known as students, and their wisdom is as inspiring for seasoned professionals as it is for those just starting. I’ve personally read the list over and over and still keep finding new bits of wisdom.
