The new bottle keeps Prosecco fresher for longer, chills faster than glass and offers portability for social gatherings.

The 750ml aluminium bottles are resealable and 40% lighter than their glass counterparts. This reduction in weight translates to decreased transportation costs and a lower environmental footprint.

The design also features an eight-colour print capability, enhancing shelf visibility during high-demand seasons, such as summer and the festive period.

In addition to its practical benefits, the aluminium bottle simplifies the recycling process by eliminating the need for secondary packaging such as labels or sleeves.

Aluminium is increasingly recognised as a sustainable packaging material due to its infinite recyclability. This move by Brown Brothers aligns with a broader industry trend towards more eco-friendly solutions.

Brown Brothers stated: “Our motivation is to be a force for good by role modelling climate leadership in our industry with relentless focus on energy efficiency, biogas production, rooftop solar installations and showcasing water stewardship with high volume water recycling technologies at our largest breweries.”

In early 2025, brewer Stone & Wood initiated the ‘Re-In-Can-Ation’ project in collaboration with Visy, Noveli and Rio Tinto.

This initiative aims to increase the use of recycled aluminium in beverage cans, potentially cutting carbon emissions by 59% compared to Stone & Wood’s current cans.

Lion, another player in the industry, highlighted the importance of collaboration in its June sustainability performance update.
